On the internet, a message is a piece of information that one Internet user wishes to send to another. It may include multiple parts, including binary files that may be attached to the message.
Sify has spent years researching on Internet mail systems to simplify the protocols, formats, and APIs used to send and receive electronic mail. The result is a comprehensive solution to address mailing needs of corporates, businesses and individuals using Sify Linux Enterprise Mailing System (SLEMS)
SLEMS consists of three components.
 |
Mail Transfer Agent - Based on an optimized version of Qmail |
 |
Mail Delivery Agent - Developed at Sify |
 |
Mail Retrieval Agent - Developed at Sify |
The MTA based on Qmail - the second most common SMTP server on the Internet, is a trusted, reliable and secure SMTP server. It also adds a lot of new features. As of today, Qmail is and has by far the fastest growth of any SMTP server.
SLEMS currently handles over a million users and hosts over 5000 corporate domains.
Even with these volumes, SLEMS is not demanding of hardware resources. It has been tested to do 450,000 transactions per day with a Pentium II desktop and 512Mb of RAM.
